Christmas Facepainting. Filling up fast!
Posted on Nov 19, 2011 10:48:46 PM
Pre-Christmas is filling up fast here at PaintedFaces, with the first two weekends of December completely booked out already! However, if you had a mid-week or ‘closer to Christmas’ party you were thinking of getting a facepainter for, you might still be in luck. Ring me as soon as possible on 476 1977 to reserve your time or Contact Me by email, letting me know when and where and how many faces.
Merry Christmas
Kara
PS. I feel sorry for the poor melty summer snowman trying to enjoy a warm Kiwi Christmas. Thanks to Christelize for the design inspiration!
Face Painting at the Mairangi Bay Fun Run 2011
Posted on Nov 9, 2011 09:54:19 PM
I’m reliably informed that I painted 70 faces in 2 hours at the Mairangi Bay Fun Run last weekend.
Whew! That has to be a personal record. I would like to offer a Knighthood to the person that invented the Rainbow Cake.
You know, if I happened to be the Queen.
Facepainting is always popular with children and this event was no different. While I didn’t get to look up much, it certainly seemed as though the parents and children who walked/ran together had a blast and the end of race festivities were well organised and lots of fun. Happy kids and happy organisers makes me happy too.
2nd place!

Just a little bit proud of how this turned out.
The theme this year was Aotearoa, (NZ) and my piece is a celebration of NZ after dark. City nightlife is represented by the burlesque dancer in her corset, french knickers and stockings. All of the clothing items are are made up of creatures from the natural side of our after-dark hours, the ruru (morpork), katipo spider, lichen moth, shorttailed bat, weta and kiwi.
It’s that time of year again already. New Zealand Body Art Awards weekend.

New Zealand Scrapbook Market Day
Posted on Sep 4, 2011 10:54:45 AM
The trickiest part about facepainting at the NZ Scrapbook Shop’s market day is not spending all the money you earn and then some. So much crafty goodness. The cupcakes were gorgeous and mini lemon meringue pies were to die for!
Mmmmm…painted advertising for the cupcake vendor.

Don’t you just love these little guys? They have all the cute factor missing from the rest of the amphibian kingdom!
I am still facepainting. Just so you know.

I’ve done some fun stuff over the last 4 months. I even took pictures of some of it. Why didn’t I blog about any of it? Why did I leave my website looking as though I went to Samoa and decided to stay there and become a beach bum?
I got back from Samoa with a humungous file of pictures I took. I painted a remarkable number of floral arm designs and tribal tattoo style eye designs at the Blues Festival.
I made an attempt to sort them out and decide which ones to upload, but it was a little overwhelming. So I procrastinated. Then I started getting some fun Christmas jobs, which I also wanted to blog about and had some photos of, but I knew I had to do the Samoa one first, since I’d said I would, so I procrastinated some more. Then I decided to renovate my house… By the time the school year started again the delay was just embarrassing and I was avoiding my blog the way you avoid that obnoxious coworker at the company Christmas do.
In the end I deleted most of the photos and just kept a few of the people I spent time with and/or the paintings I liked best. So, I’m a space cadet, sue me.
This is Erica Sunshine Lee, my gorgeous girl from Georgia. Her song Walk of Shame cracks me up. The art is the logo from her latest album.
And the lovely Gail Ludlow from Riverhead Slide with flowers to match her dress.
And me and Megz, relaxing and listening to the music… oh, and drinking cocktails. I’m sure there was some of that too.
Good times.

Heading to Samoa for this… http://www.samoajbfest.org/ The International Jazz and Blues Festival.
The husband is the blues musician, I’m just tagging along for the pool and the pina coladas.
If you need me (you know you do!
) to facepaint for your Christmas function, birthday party or other event I’ll be back home on the 17th of November. Please leave me an email.
In the meantime, I had a wonderful Halloween. The awesomely gruesome Les Mills/Spookers Party was a brilliant job, though painting IN THE DARK was a new and hilarious challenge. I was a bit nervous to see the photos, but hey, twas Halloween. This lovely lady is one of mine.

As is the rather dapper gentleman on the left there… Pleased to meet you…

Right, see you back here soon! Have a good week.

Facepaint for Halloween
Posted on Oct 12, 2010 09:19:25 PM
I had to remove my Fiji-braids. Awwww, sad. My fluffy post-braids hair reminded me of woolen ragdoll hair….
…. and it’s nearly Halloween…
…. hmmmmmmm….
So, who wants to be a serial-killer-victim dolly for Halloween?
Here’s a closer pic of the makeup.
Thoughts? Other ideas for me to try? Want a tutorial on how I did it? Lemme know below!
Thanks.
NZ Body Art Awards 2010 – skin, paint, paint and more paint!
Posted on Oct 3, 2010 12:08:26 PM
So, how was the weather yesterday? We arrived at the Bruce Mason Theatre at 8am and worked solidly until 3:45pm, then there were two shows, 4pm and 7:30pm. None of us working downstairs saw daylight at all. I can’t really explain how incredible it is to look up occasionally from your own work and see the other artworks around you taking shape in stop-motion jumps. At the beginning of the day it looks like the set of Spartacus, skin everywhere, then there’s random blobs of colour, then suddenly, BANG, there’s some amazing creation in front of you.
I’m told the food was really good this year. I remember seeing trays of muffins, little pies, samosas, sandwiches and vegetable sticks being passed round. I must remember to eat next year. Anna and Mike hit me over the head with a chocolate bar at one stage. I was BUSY!!!
(sorry guys) Looking back, I do believe I was a bit too ambitious with my design, either that or I need to learn how to paint faster. I ran out of time to put the scalework in. Still, I’m very pleased with how it came out, especially the back.
I didn’t win any prizes this year (play small violin). Ah well, there were 12 stunning entries in the Hand Painted Professional Category and I didn’t envy the judges their job one bit. My entry was Ananta-Shesha, the Endless Serpent or Serpent of Eternity. In Hindu mythology, he is the multiple-headed serpent who exists in space and holds the planets of the Universe on his hoods. I read about him and went, yup, Love It.
So, for those of you who have asked. Pics! These are all taken backstage.
First the back.
Then the front.
And one with me, just to prove it.
I know it’s usually the winners that do the speeches, but you know, even if you aren’t on the winning team, every entry IS a team, so I’m gonna do it too.
Huge thank you first of all to my husband Mike, who as a first time model was patient, hardworking and awesome and got lots of compliments on his performance on stage in spite of being crazy nervous. Also thank you Anna Klein for being my assistant once again, I’d still not be finished if it wasn’t for you! Please always keep NZBAA weekends free.
Derek Tomes, thanks for your help with the hoods for my cobras. I had no clue where to start. And Tigger, for taking an evening out to help me sort out my total colour choice meltdown.
Ok, now I’m going to spend the day looking at things that are NOT yellow, purple or orange. I closed my eyes last night and all I could see were flame-coloured coils. Argh!
Since I’ve stared at this design for weeks now, I’m unable to be remotely objective, so I’d love it if you could leave a comment, let me know what you think.
Thanks
Kara
